  • The name (believe it or not) is not a spelling mistake, it comes from the Greek word kinēma which means movement. The French later coined this word as cinématographe which has of course evolved into the word which we all now know as ‘cinema’.

  • The building was constructed in 1925 as a community memorial hall. Since then, it has served Narooma, surrounds and tourists alike! It became predominantly used as a cinema in the 80’s and has kept rolling since! We are believed to be the second oldest running cinema in Australia and are heritage listed.

  • Yes, we certainly do! Our entry doors are a slightly narrow so we’ll always be happy to quickly open them up to ensure for easy access. We have a wheelchair friendly upstairs bathroom and plenty of room to access both cinemas. If you’re looking for more space we would recommend cinema 1 as half the cinema is flat. Cinema 2 has mostly tiered seating so it will mean sitting towards the front. However, the screen in cinema 2 is quite level so don’t worry about having to stare upwards during the entire film!

  • Well, we’re very glad you asked. We source quality icecream, quality waffles cones, make them in house and select flavours you likely won’t be able to find elsewhere! Of course we have the standard vanillas and chocolates, however we have a rotating menu of more than 20 flavours so there’ll always be a new yummy flavour to try. Some favourites include ginger, salted caramel, pistachio and turkish delight. And YES you can purchase choctops without watching a movie…no judgement over here!

  • Cinema 1 (the original theatre) is our larger cinema which has a full capacity of 192 whereas our boutique Cinema 2 has a capacity of roughly 30. Cinema 2 screenings will always have an asterisk (*) on our program next to the session times. We always recommend booking for cinema 2.

  • You don’t need to however we highly recommend booking for popular films or on rainy days, especially with any sessions in our smaller cinema (Cinema 2). Bookings can be made online or over the phone, we don’t generally take payments over the phone so book and just pay when you arrive!
